The Shade Tree Commission serves to proactively maintain, assess and inventory trees on county property. The Commission oversees that guidelines concerning pruning of trees by utility companies are strictly adhered to and requires permits for tree removal or alteration in the county rights of way.
Commission tasks include:
- Develop and maintain a Community Forestry Management Plan for the county.
- Contract vendors to have trees on county properties and parks evaluated and removed and/or pruned as needed.
- Fertilizing, spraying and inventorying trees as needed on county properties and parks to maintain optimum growing conditions.
- Members receive proper training and maintain Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) as required by the County and State.
The Warren County Board of County Commissioners (formally the Board of Chosen Freeholders) established the Warren County Shade Tree Commission in 1982. It exercises full and exclusive control over the regulation, planting and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery now located, or which may hereafter be planted in any county road right of way, county park or county owned land.
Permits
Permits are required to perform the following acts to any shade or ornamental trees and shrubs in a county right of way or on county property:
1. Prune, climb, and/or remove.
2. Disturb or interfere in anyway with the subsurface root system.
3. Spray with any chemicals.
4. Fasten any rope, wire, sign or other devices.
5. Remove any guard or device placed to protect any tree or shrub.
6. Maintain a stationary fire or device, which vaporizes noxious fumes deleterious to tree health.
7. Plant a tree or shrub.
Driveway openings onto county roads:
1. A permit will be necessary from the Commission if any of the provisions contained previously apply.
Violations:
1. Any person, firm or corporation that shall violate any provision of this resolution shall be liable to a fine as required by law.
